All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE recently released an official notice informing that the colleges and higher education institutes have been allowed as a one time measure to provide admissions to students in MBA or PGDM courses without CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT scores. The circular released is available on aicte-india.org.

CAT scores not mandatory for MBA PGDM Admissions 2020 as per AICTEThe council stated that since many entrance exams have not been conducted in various states, admissions would be allowed without exams this time. The official circular read,  “In many of the states, some of the above entrance tests could not be conducted due to fear of the spread of Coronavirus and there is no indication as to whether these tests are postponed or likely to be held or cancelled etc.”

AICTE said that it was more of a facilitator than a regulator as it considered alternative modes for admission which can “benefit the institutions as well as the students”.  In the current scenario, the Council thus has allowed the students to be enrolled based on the marks obtained by them in the qualifying exams and the merit list being prepared for the same. Check the entire notice here.

The first preference would be given to candidates who have qualified the entrance exams irrespective of their marks secured in degree exams. However such candidates must have obtained minimum passing marks. For vacant seats, admissions would be provided based on the merit of marks obtained in undergraduate courses.

AICTE said, “If vacant seats are still available, candidates shall be selected based on the merit in the qualifying UG exams. The States may also use this relaxation while allotting seats through counselling.” CAT 2020 admission process has already begun and would continue till September 16, 2020. The exam is scheduled to be held on November 29 in two sessions. IIM Indore is responsible for conducting CAT this year.
